Where Are The Savings?
Technology is getting better. Data is everywhere. So where are the savings?
Throughout the building life cycle, money is lost to inefficient processes, poor information flow, and late decisions. At the same time, new technology is creating opportunities to reduce construction costs, lower energy use, and make buildings more efficient to operate.
This session follows the money from construction to operation.
Where are we still losing it, where can technology help us save it, and what does it take to turn better tools and better data into real value? Because the real question isn't whether the technology exists. It's where the savings are, whether we're capturing them, and who benefits.
Schedule
14:00–14:10Aleksander Bjaaland: The Cost of Broken Information Flow
Aleksander Bjaaland
Models are better. Tools are better. Data is everywhere. Yet productivity gains remain stubbornly difficult to capture.
Aleksander Bjaaland opens the session by following the money through a construction project: Where do unclear decisions, duplicated information, late changes, poor handovers and fragmented responsibilities turn into real cost? And which of these losses should the industry be able to eliminate now?
14:10–14:20Veidekke: The Construction Tech Leaving The Lab
Eirik Kristensen
Robots. Autonomous machines. 3D-printed concrete. AI that sees what is happening on site.
For Veidekke, one of Norway's largest construction companies, these are no longer distant construction trends, but technologies being tested in live projects where they have to survive budgets, deadlines, safety requirements, and the realities of the jobsite.
Veidekke takes us inside four fields they believe can materially change how we build, what they are testing today, what is already working - and what it takes to turn promising technology into actual production.
14:20–14:30Braathen Eiendom & Somfy: The Cheapest Energy Is The One The Building Doesn't Need
Morten Tobiassen
Jørgen Fremstad
Can we reduce energy demand before generating more energy?
Dynamic solar shading can actively manage solar heat gain, daylight and energy demand throughout the year. Somfy explains the principles and technology, before Braathen Eiendom shares how they have put it into practice at Dronning Eufemias gate 8, and what they have learned.
14:30–14:40Curotech: A Handover That Actually Works for Building Operations
Bård Einar Torjesen
Too often, a completed building comes with thousands of documents but little usable information. Curotech shows how collecting and verifying FM data throughout construction can turn handover from a last-minute paperwork exercise into a working foundation for operations and maintenance.
14:40–14:50Panel Discussion: Why Do We Keep Losing the Same Money?
Aleksander Bjaaland
Eirik Kristensen
Jørgen Fremstad+2
Why do proven improvements remain isolated inside individual projects? Is the real bottleneck technology, procurement, contracts, incentives - or simply the way projects are organised?
And if the industry had to remove one recurring source of waste from every major project tomorrow, where should it start?
