Where is The Second Mover?
Real estate has no shortage of pilots. The real challenge is what happens next.
New technologies are tested, concepts are proven and results can be promising. But too often, innovation stops with the project that created it. So what does it take to move from a successful experiment to something that is adopted, repeated and scaled?
This session looks at that critical step from pilot to practice. Through examples from AI, construction and climate innovation, we explore what makes the second project happen, how collaboration between owners, contractors and technology companies can accelerate adoption, and when innovation starts to create real value.
Perhaps the real challenge isn't technology at all. It's risk. Who is willing to be the second mover, adopting something they didn't invent and accepting the uncertainty that comes with doing things differently? And are we sometimes so afraid of the unknown that we fall back on yesterday's logic?
Schedule
15:25–15:45Beyond The Pilot: Human-Centric Autonomous Buildings Are Already Here
Daniel Sam Khabbazian
Frida Ahlberg
Per Adolfsson
Why the built world needs fewer experiments and more collaboration. Everyone's talking about AI, perhaps even running pilots. So far, few manage to change how projects are actually delivered. What does it take to move from promising technology to real-world adoption?
Siemens and Algeno share lessons from working with owners, contractors and tech companies that have managed to scale innovation beyond individual projects - and why collaboration may be a bigger competitive advantage than technology itself.
15:45–15:55From Vertikal to SVAL
Øystein Thorup
Niels Lassen
Vertikal Nydalen challenged how much technical infrastructure a modern building really needs.
Now Avantor and Skanska’s experiment is informing SVAL - a repeatable climate concept taken into Entra and Skanska’s Christian Krohgs gate 2.
Avantor and Skanska tell the story from first experiment to second generation - what worked, what changed and what made it possible to build again.
